Cushion from textiles of the Tai Daeng, Laos

The textile od this cushion was part of an festivity banner, in lao tung kon dtaai.These banners were often used for funerals. They hung from poles in front of the deceases house and in the cementery near the burial size. Often these banners are decoreted with animals such as birds, elephants and deers. In general the funeral helps  leaving the earth and finding heaven. Together with the shaman’s spirit the animals guide the dead on the air road to heaven.
