These garments are made from different indian cotton textiles, specially checked cotton textiles called Madras. During the long trade histoy of the cloth there was the rumor that it all started with with tartan plaids of the Scottish regiments, but in fact it was only the description of the european for their orders as „in the pattern of Scotch tartan“ that started these confusion. The real Madras Handkerchief, RMHK or Madras was made only for export. Other textiles used in this collection are thin dothi and shirt material. The Indian Textile industry has a rich history which is more than 5000-years-old.The Romans called Indian cotton “woven air”, in praise of its lightness and quality.
