Paper flower bouquet from Poland

44,00 incl. VAT

Paper plays a central role in Polish folklore. There are paper cut-outs (wycinanki), mobiles made of straw and paper (pajaki), bouquets of flowers (kwiaty z papieru) and Christmas cribs from Krakow (szopska). At the beginning of the 19th century, paper was still a luxury item and farmers worked with straw, fabric or leather. With the industrialisation of paper production, the price dropped and coloured paper became something that even poor peasant families in Galicia could afford.
