These silk tunics were made in Germany from an handmade ikat silk fabric from the famous Ikat manufacture in Hotan, South Xinjiang/China. Unlike as in Uzbekistan, the Uyghur women still wear, whether rich or poor, dresses made out of real silk. Most of them prefer patterned fabrics with traditional motifs, like the classic peacock feather motif and different Ikat patterns. The cut of the dress is coming from an everyday dress from a tibetan tailor, sourced in Nepal, Katmandu around 2005.
