These ceramics were handmade in Romania and are based on antique ceramics from Transylvania, a region in Romania.
Transylvania has always been a melting pot of different cultures and peoples. Romanians, Hungarians, Szeklers and Germans lived here in close proximity to each other. They worked together and also served the tastes of the neighbouring ethnic group if it was good for business.
Added to this were the many cultural influences from the South (Balkans, Italy), the West (Western and Northern Europe) and the East (Ottoman Empire and Asia). This mixture produced an exceptionally rich ceramic art that has been preserved in many places to this day.
