Hand stiched hungarian tablecloth from the northwestern region of Transsilvania, Kalotaszeg. The region is famous for their beautifully enriched art. One of the most famous composer of our time is Belá Bartók whose collection can be admired at the ethnological museum in Budapest. The stichings from Kalotaszeg are made normaly in chain stich, they called irásos, written embroidery. They are monochrom, usually in red, white and blue. This pieces is made in cross stich. In particular the densely stiched ornamental floral designs in geometrical order and the love for geomatrical designs demonstrate the strong influence of Rumanian art. The lovely ladies of Kalotaszeg, who still master the art of stiching at their homes also like the more playful motives of Hungarian designs. However the motives are drawn first and then stiched on the handwoven linen.

Description

Zu den berühmtesten Sammlern der Stickereien aus Kalotaszeg gehörte der Komponist Belá Bartók, dessen Sammlung man heute im ethnologischen Museum in Budapest bewundern kann. Die Stickereien sind monochrom, in der Regel in den Farben Rot, Weiß oder Blau. Die dicht bestickten ornamentalen Blumenmotive sind geometrische und floral zugleich. Hier erkennt man deutlich den Einfluss rumänischer Volkskunst mit ihrem Hang zur Abstraktion. Die Motive sind vorgezeichnet, man nennt sie deshalb auch geschriebene Stickerei. Sie ist so meisterhaft in Plattstich ausgeführt, dass man sie auch ihre Rückseite verwenden könnte.
