Antique Baby quilt from Anatolia, Turkey
This handmade blockprinted blanket was used as prayer mat. It is a typical work from Tokat, Anatolia, Turkey. Such prayer mats were presented to parents after they return pilgrimage from Mecca. Tokat was one of the major block printing centers of Anatolia started with Armenian masters. This art is existing since the 16th century, it survives today on a limited scale in Tokat and Kastamonu.
