Longhi from Myanmar


Longhis are worn by all men and women in Myanmar. Technically, the longhi is a very wide fabric tube, which is wrapped around the lower body like a sarong. In oppose to the sarong the longhi can not open anywhere and one shows skin, which is for such a deeply religious country as Myanmar an advantage.

IV Quarter 20th century, 100% silk

Hand-woven and dyed. Upper edge of black cotton. The longhi is (simply measured) 88 cm wide and without the cotton edge 104 cm long. There are no buttons or hooks.
